Performance Dates: November 21-30, 2025 @ Gateway Theatre, Edmonton


Auditions: August 8 (6-10pm) and Aug 9 (10am-4pm) 2025, Location provided to applicants via email; Callbacks Aug 10 as required.


Rehearsals: Rehearsals will begin mid-September 3-4 days/week, extending to 5 days/week in the week before venue move-in. Rehearsals will occur part-time 2-3 weeknights and 1-2 weekend days. As such, actors with greatest flexibility will be given priority. Venue move-in: Nov 17. *Tech week may possibly involve some 12pm starts Nov 18-21 and performers must be available for the same if necessary*


Compensation: All artists will be engaged under the Artists’ Collective Policy (ACP). Both union and non-union performers are eligible for consideration. See more about the policy on the CAEA website. 


Play Synopsis: The Castle Spectre is a gothic melodrama set in an isolated castle where the tyrannous Lord Osmond now reigns after the suspicious death of his brother two decades ago. After years of hiding in the shadows, Osmond captures a young villager named Angela intent to make her his wife. When Angela refuses, the haunting mystery of the former ruler is revealed in both violent and supernatural ways. 


Characters:

Age ranges, gender presentations refer to the character and not the actor. One role in the show is already cast and is therefore not listed here. 


Angela (20 f): A villager invited to the castle for mysterious reasons, level-headed and assertive. *Swordplay, guitar/lute and singing experience are assets*


Lord Osmond (45+m): The mysterious and vengeful Earl who is haunted by the ghosts of his past. *Swordplay experience an asset*


Kenric (30+ m): Osmond’s lead guard who has worked at the castle since his teens and carries a dark secret. *Swordplay experience an asset*


Seb (30+m/f): One of Osmond’s guards, loyal and committed to whatever violent means necessary to protect his/her master. *Swordplay experience an asset*


Motley (40+m): Castle jester and ruffian with loyalty to whoever carries the biggest purse. *Physical comedy experience an asset*


Father Philip (40+ m): A pious and practical monk, with a penchant for pastries


Alice (40+ f): Head chambermaid who loves to be boss around her underlings and spill the Castle ‘tea’


Percy (20+ f): A passionate noblewoman disguised and seeking to rescue her beloved


Reginald (45+ m): The former Lord of Castle Conway, sorrowful and disgraced


Evelina (30-40 f): The former Lady of Castle Conway, wise and calming *Singing and guitar/lute experience are assets*



AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:
